Leading military insurance provider, Towergate Wilsons, is
delighted to have been able to support the inception of a new
Winter Sport to the British Army.
The sponsorship pledged by Towergate Wilsons has enabled the
inaugural Army Telemark Championships 2008 to take place in Rauris,
Austria. The event had a fantastic first attendance of almost
70 competitors, far greater than expected for the launch of this
exciting new sport.
Experience at the event ranged from the highly capable
members of the current GB Telemark squad, to Novices who may have
skied Alpine or Nordic before but had never tried the sport.
There was a range of Unit teams, matched by a similar number of
individual Telemarkers, many of whom formed hors concors teams for
the races.
Major General David Rutherford-Jones, President of Army Telemark
commented that, “To get this venture off the ground has
required innovation, determination and youthful energy, this
is why we welcome the support of a business like Towergate Wilsons,
who resonate a similar commitment to their customers in Defence.
The Army is grateful to Towergate Wilsons and the Telemark
fraternity look forward to a long relationship with the
Company.”
Rod Breeze, Managing Director of Towergate Wilsons comments
that, “We were attracted to Telemark by the sheer enthusiasm of the
committee to develop a new military sport but also their growth
plan to challenge the more established winter sports in the years
to come”.
“Having provided a range of insurances, including kit, home,
personal accident, travel and motor, to the military for over 60
years we feel we understand their needs. Small things like
supporting new associations develop is one of the many ways we give
something back to the market we work in” continues Rod Breeze.
“Our staff hold presentations or surgeries at most of HM Forces
Army bases and with the support of a first class contact centre are
always on hand to offer support to the newest members of the
Towergate Wilsons sponsor group” said Rod Breeze.
